This article reports that Michael Flynn, Stephen Bannon, and Jared Kushner had a secret meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II before President Trump took office. The article advances the idea that the idea the meeting may have had something to do with an alternative nuclear program, and might have involved Russia.

Some new contributors to “Impeachable Offenses”

This semester, in addition to my responsibilities at the law school, I have the pleasure of teaching an undergraduate tutorial in the University of Missouri Honors College titled, “The Impeachment Power & American Constitutional Balance.”  This tutorial (and many others) has been generously supported by the MU Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy.

My very bright tutorial students are each assigned to produce a number of posts for this blog.  So in the coming months, readers will see contributions from some new names, each providing a new perspective.  I hope you’ll enjoy them.

This article reports on the backlash President Trump has received from Ann Coulter following his recent move away from a harsh immigration policy. Comments like Ann Coulter’s “who DOESN’T want Trump impeached?” may seem like litte more than trash talk, but they could represent declining support from the President’s base.

Partial Impeachment: the Power of Congress

This opinion piece, written Robert Kagan, explores the idea of a congressional take-over of executive power to create a so called congressional government. To defend the merits of this concept, Kagan points to historical instances of congressional take-overs, as well as modern examples, such as the Russian Sanctions. This sort of action may be at least as concievable as impeachment, as it would require less congressional support.

Enemies in Congress

Can Trump make enough enemies in Congress to get impeached? This article suggests that with every crticism President Trump makes towards Republican legislators the higher his impeachment chances become; a recent relevant example being his siding with Democrats on the debt ceiling issue. It is true that impeachment is a political question, meaning that it is left to the discretion of the elected. As such, President Trump’s chances of impeachment very well may ride on his political usefulness.
